United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children’s rights. It works to help children meet their basic needs and confer them with opportunities to maximize their potential. It is guided by the ‘Convention on the Rights of the Child’ and strives to establish children’s rights as enduring ethical principles and international standards of behavior towards children. For the past 74 years, UNICEF has been working towards the realization of children’s rights to grow up in a family environment, protected from violence, abuse and exploitation.

Yet, child abuse and exploitation remain a grim reality in today’s world. Violence against children from all socio-economic and cultural groups is widespread. Girls and boys all across the globe face the threat of domestic abuse, sexual violence, trafficking, online violence, child labor and bullying. This is a crisis awaiting a solution. Therefore, it is with great resolve that we present to you, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the 9th committee being simulated at BVCMUN 2021.

Agenda:

Formulating steps to build a comprehensive national child protection system that can prevent and respond to all forms of child abuse, violence and exploitation.
